Choose your subject
Chris says: “I try to tie my image choices in with current
affairs. I knew I wanted to do something at Stonehenge
but wasn’t 100% sure what – and I wanted to make sure it was legal.
The Summer Solstice presented a fabulous opportunity that saw the
resulting image published in eight national newspapers the next day.”

Light and weather
“No matter what the subject is, the weather is
crucial for good sunrises and sunsets or early-
morning mist. Many a picture has been made or ruined by
the weather. A long drive to a location is pointless if you’ve
not checked the weather forecast before setting out. On
this occasion, low sea mist cleared to produce an image
that looked [like it was shot] far higher than it was.”

Composition
“Great altitude is not always the best option:
sometimes you just need to get a drone where
you can’t humanly tread – like over water. I recently
photographed the lights of Brighton Pier; because I was
over water, it was an angle never seen before – and the
Mavic Pro 2 drone is fabulous at shooting in low light.”
