Shadows or

silhouettes

Capture form and shape,

light and dark to be crowned

our Facebook champion!

ur next friendly
Facebook
photography
shooting
challenge is
now open – and the theme
for this issue is shadows or
silhouettes. With the summer
in full swing and the light
strong and high in the sky now
is the perfect time to have a go.
There are many approaches
you can take to our theme,

from photographing people
on the streets in a classic
documentary style to looking
at the subject from a more
arty, abstract perspective.
The outline of a person
silhouetted against the light
makes an excellent subject –
or, for those not knowing
where to begin, you could try
having an exploration around
your kitchen with an LED light
and seeing what shapes and

patterns you can capture
from the utensils.
When it comes to getting
the correct exposure settings
for this type of shot, it can be
tricky due to the different
exposure values between the
shadows and highlights. If your
camera is taking an average
metering for the whole scene
and you want your shadows to
be darker, knock the exposure
meter down a stop or two.

Becca Fulcher
Well done to Becca, who has captured this wonderful and very cute portrait
of a duckling. The plain blurred background and foreground help to isolate the
subject, surrounding the bird in a rich, luscious green. Technically it ticks all
the boxes, making it a wonderful image that sums up that feeling of spring.
