Directions: Read the letter below. Underline the information that is trivial and write
the redundant statements on the spaces below.

Redundant statements:

Dear Mayor Morgan,
I am writing to you because you are an important person. I
am very upset with my neighbor. My neighbor is making me
angry. My neighbor grows tomatoes in his garden. He grows
big tomatoes in his garden. I do not like tomatoes. Tomatoes
are not my favorite garden food. I think tomatoes taste bad
and I shouldn’t have to look at tomatoes growing in his
garden. Every time I climb up on the roof of my garage and
hang from my oak tree, I can see the tomatoes growing in his
garden. He should not grow tomatoes where I can see them.
One time my neighbor even brought me a jar of his homemade
tomato sauce. The jar was green. Who ever heard of putting
red tomato sauce in a green jar? The man should go to jail!
Sincerely,
Noah Z. Pants

It is trivial to talk about unimportant things and it’s
boring to be redundant by repeating the information.
Just state the facts if you want to be convincing.
