1
Instant fix
A shot’s colours may look drab and
washed out. Tap Import to bring a
desaturated picture into Pixelmator
Photo’s digital darkroom. By tapping the
ML magic wand icon you can instantly
boost colour and increase contrast.
2
Fine-tune colour
The ML button has been activated
for every property. We can still fine-tune
the colours – manually drag the Hue &
saturation panel’s Vibrance slider right to
increase the saturation of a landscape’s
blues and greens, for example.
3
Tweak the tones
Scroll to the Lightness panel. Here
you can tweak problem tones to reveal
missing detail. In this example we’ve
selectively lightened under-exposed
shadows without blowing out the sky’s
brighter highlights.

Remove people
Sometimes you can’t control who or
what is in the frame. The Repair tool uses
machine learning to replace an unwanted
object with appropriate pixels from other
parts of the shot. Here we have an
unwanted person in the picture.

doa good job. Try shrinking the brush tip
and spraying again. It took three tries to
remove the man from our landscape. You
can then tap on Share and export the
edited shot using a range of options.
Advanced tools
Pixelmator Photo’s Machine Learning tools help novice editors improve their
colours, tones and compositions automatically, but the app also packs a punch
when it comes to professional picture processing. The Curves panel enables you
to lighten or darken specific regions by dragging points on a curve. You can also
target and tweak the colour balance of shadows, midtones and highlights for
more creative looks. There are powerful black and white conversion tools that
enable you to lighten areas based on the shot’s original colours.
