Atlas of Hispanic-American History

(Marvins-Underground-K-12) #1

NOTE ON PHOTOS

Some of the illustrations and photographs used in this book are old, historical
images. The quality of the prints is not always up to modern standards, as in many
cases the originals are from old negatives or the originals are damaged. The content
of the illustrations, however, made their inclusion important despite problems in
reproduction.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

T

he author and editor wish to thank the many people who have contributed
greatly to this project. It was first conceived by Facts On File’s Eleanora von
Dehsen. Eleanora and her noble successors, Nicole Bowen and Owen
Lancer, have exhibited perseverance, patience and expertise. It was a pleasure work-
ing with them.
The maps, too, were a collaborative effort. For the first edition, most were pre-
pared by David Lindroth, a very skilled independent illustrative cartographer. For the
revised edition, Dale Williams of Facts On File did a magnificent job reformatting
David's original maps and creating a considerable number of entirely new maps as
well. Laura Smyth also deserves enormous thanks for her excellent work as produc-
tion editor for the revised edition.
On the personal side, the author thanks his wife, Melinda Corey, and daughter,
Martha Corey-Ochoa for their help and patience during the writing of the first edi-
tion of this book. Likewise, the editor thanks his wife, Monique Avakian, and daugh-
ter, Erin Smith, for their support and patience, as well.
