also be achieved through audio. In Th is Unfamiliar Place, a 1992 short fi lm
memoir about the experiences of the director’s father, Eva Ilona Brzeski is
not physically present in the footage shot for the movie. When fi lming her
father for her movie, it was clear that the tragic events he experienced as a
youth in Poland during World War II were diffi cult to discuss, and there is
little traditional interview footage in the movie. She uses voiceover to tell his
story from her perspective and to off er refl ections on the role of catastrophic
events in her life.
