Special eff ects – Until the advent of digital eff ects, special eff ects were
understood to be any illusionist technique in a motion picture achieved
by optical or mechanical means. Since the turn of the twenty-fi rst century,
special eff ects are understood as any optical eff ects performed directly with
the camera and physical eff ects created during production by mechanical,
pyrotechnic or artifi cial means.
Special eff ects coordinator – Supervises the creation of fi re, snow, explosions,
and all other eff ects necessary during production.
Stunt coordinator – In charge of safely preparing and executing any stunts
in coordination with the camera crew, special eff ects team, and other
departments.
Unit production manager – Supervisor of personnel and physical aspects of
principal photography, including adherence to schedule and budget.
Visual eff ects – Since the integration of digital manipulation of motion pictures
and the advent of computer-generated images, all eff ects that are created for
implementation during post-production, such as digital compositing and
CGI, are known as visual eff ects.
Visual eff ects supervisor – Department head in charge of all visual eff ects work,
planning all work with the director, cinematographer, and other necessary
personnel, and overseeing budgeting and execution of these procedures for
the project.
Wardrobe supervisor – Individual in charge of inventory and maintenance
of wardrobe and timely and accurate costuming of actors during principal
photography.
Wild wall – A movable wall constructed for a fi lm set.
