Metropolitan, where the opera premiered in 1914. Musical style is described:
based on leading motives, with emphasis on drama instead of melody. Recep-
tion was poor: it had six performances and has not been revived at the Met.
Better reviews came to the Chicago production of 1916 and a California stag-
ing in 1984, and since then there have been several performances.
