glorify his qualities. Musical numbers are described, with examples.

1682): A Thematic Catalogue of His Compositions. Thematic Catalogues, 16.
    Stuyvesant, N.Y.: Pendragon, 1990. 325p. ISBN 0-945193-05-X. ML134 .S89
    A25.
A valuable compilation of data about the prolific Stradella, covering about
300 authentic and extant vocal works, in addition to instrumental material.
The main task of the compilers was to clean up the mangled worklist of Remo
Giazotto in his 1962 biography of Stradella: it seems that it was embellished
with fake documentation and led to vast misconceptions about the composer’s
output. Gianturco and McCrickard offer complete accounts of the authentic
works, including incipits of many arias of all the operas and source informa-
tion. A useful name list includes about 400 librettists, poets, patrons, and
    opera characters. Well indexed.

  2. Gianturco, Carolyn. “The Operas of Alessandro Stradella (1644–1682).”
    Ph.D. diss., U. of Oxford, 1970. 2v.
Note that the composer’s birthdate was later found, by Gianturco, to be 1639
rather than 1644; see previous entry, and the next entry, based on the disserta-
    tion.

The chapter on theater music, including five operas, gives plots and technical
notes. Footnotes, bibliography of about 250 items, expansive index.
