Dramatical Works(Prague: Dilia, 1971); it lists about 450 operas and ballets, with
librettist, instrumentation, cast, and voice types. A useful yearbook, Musical Events in
Czech Republic and in Slovak Republic(Prague: Hudební Informacní Stredisko
Ceského Hudební Fondu Praha, 1993–) carries news of concerts, opera performances,
competitions, festivals, and musicians.


Denmark (Danish: Danmark; French: Danemark; German: Dänemark)


The national theater, Danske Nationalteatr (formerly Der Kongelige Teatr and
Hofteatr), was established in 1748. Its history is traced in several volumes:

    A useful chronology of opera, drama, and ballet performances for 1889–1975,
    with names of directors, conductors, and stage designers (but not of actors or
    singers); many photos of productions. Includes visiting companies. Lists of
    titles of works in original languages and Danish; indexes of authors, com-
    posers, choreographers, designers, and conductors. No general index. Bibliog-
    raphy of about 70 entries.

  3. Schepelern, Gerhard. Italierne pas Hofteatret. Copenhagen: Rhodos, 1976. 2v.
    ML1743 .S34
    Summary in German. A study of Italian touring opera companies that per-
    formed in Copenhagen during 1841–1854. The second volume has more
    general information: chronological list of Danish operas performed in Copen-
    hagen, 1789–1899, and another list of works by non-Danes, 1703–1899. Bib-
    liography of about 300 titles, indexes of names and titles. Additional works

    A useful essay from a volume prepared for an exposition of Danish music. The
    author gives a narrative account of operas performed since 1931, identifying
    prominent persons.
