A celebratory volume marking the reopening of the theater on 12 May 1997. It
had closed in 1974. Official documents relating to the planning and financing
of the reconstruction, and to the competition to select the architect (G. B. F.
Basile). Blueprints, drawings of fixtures, color illustrations. No index.
Parma
The city has a distinguished operatic past, boasting one of the oldest extant theaters,
the Farnese (opened in 1628), and later associations with Verdi—it is the home of the
Istituto di Studi Verdiani—and then Toscanini. The present center for opera is the
Teatro Regio, which opened in 1829; it was named Teatro Ducale until 1849.
