    Opera is treated along with other stage presentations in this imposing work;
    coverage is 1538–1961. A chronology of performances, 1911–1961, is in v.5,
    and there is an index of names, organizations, theaters, places, and publications
    in the last volume.

    México, siglo 19. Mexico City: Cuadernos de Cultura Popular, 1970.
    Not seen. There was also a continuation for 1900–1911 (1981). Kaufman
    describes these works as narratives for each season in the capital, with dates
    and casts for many performances but without actual chronologies.

    A popular history of the period 1924–1973, with dates and casts of many per-
    formances. No index. The review in Inter-American Music Review5–1 (Fall


1982) makes favorable comments but observes that the book should be “re-
edited with careful insertion or confirmation of dates, places, and names. Foot-
notes should be added, identifying person and places casually mentioned.
Above all an index is needed.”

Not seen. Kaufmandescribes it as a coffee-table book of illustrations, with
descriptions of each season and chronologies.
