Index of Opera Titles
Citations are to entry numbers. This is a list of opera titles specifically named in cita-
tions or in annotations. It includes the names of operas in major compilations, such as
FO and IO-1640, since all the works in those compilations have separate citations.
Although the list may be useful as an inventory of principal operas, it is important to
note that many important works are not found in it, because they are not named in
citations or annotations. For example, there are only two Gilbert and Sullivan operas.
An asterisk following an entry number indicates that there is material about the opera
in the text that follows that entry. Alphabetizing is word by word—Al gran solebefore
Albert Herring—and initial articles and diacritics in all languages are ignored.
