D

A Detail question. O’Keeffe’s “semi-abstract” style is discussed in the passage’s last two sentences. Don’t worry if the term
“semi-abstract” sounds confusing to you because, as always, everything you need to know will be stated or clearly suggested.
The next-to-last sentence states that O’Keeffe’s paintings are thought of as semi-abstract because they depict recognizable
images in a way that is not very detailed or realistic. (D) simply restates this. (A) and (E) are wrong because they refer to
“realistic” or “real-life” qualities, descriptions that contradict the passage’s explanation of “semi-abstract.” While (B) and
(C) both describe O’Keeffe’s work accurately, they are not reasons for her work being called “semi-abstract.” They describe
subjects of her paintings, but not the semi-abstract style in which they were painted.

H

A Detail question. The first sentence of the third paragraph states that O’Keeffe is considered a pioneering modern American
painter. The following two sentences say why—because her style was independent and identifiably American, not strongly
influenced by European art. (H) restates the idea. (F) is never suggested. (G) and (J) are true of O’Keeffe’s work, but they are
not the reasons she was considered an artistic pioneer. (K) is not true of O’Keeffe’s work, which is considered semi-abstract,
not very abstract. Furthermore, (K) does not address the question of why O’Keeffe is considered an artistic pioneer.
