  1. (E) Rescorla’s contingency theory of classical conditioning modified the original contiguity theory
    by saying that learning didn’t simply depend on the number of times a CS and US were paired but
    rather the degree to which the CS reliably predicted the US. The US can be said to be contingent
    upon the CS when the CS reliably predicts the US.
