Coral reefs
Coral reefs, like this one in French
Polynesia, make up about one percent
of the ocean floor—but they are home
to almost a quarter of all ocean species.
Lots of fish, such as these gold-lined sea
breams, gather in the reefs to eat.

New Guinea forests
Forests cover two-thirds of
the island of Papua New
Guinea. Around 760 bird
species and 25,000 plant
species live here, as does
the Goodfellow’s tree
kangaroo, which climbs
trees to eat leaves.
