Foundedjustover 10 yearsagobyJadeHarwood,LisaRodwellandAureliePopper,

WoolandtheGangsellfashionableDIYknittingkitsforallskilllevels.Thetriobonded

overa passionforsustainabilityandtheideaofa betterwaytoconnectwithyour

clothes.Annatakesupthestory,“Wethoughtit wasimportanttocreatea softand

squishyyarnthatbalancedtherecycledplasticelementaswellasbeinggreattowor

with.”However,theprocesswasn’tsimple,withtheteamgoingthrougha number

ofversionsofNewWaveYarnbeforefindingtheoutcometheywerehappywith.“We

hadtofindtheperfectsupplierwhosharedourethos,aswellasmakingsurewegot

incrediblestitchdefinition,colourrangeandtexture– allthethingsweknowknitters

love,”saysAnna.Shecontinues,“Ittooka longtimefortheteamtodevelopit,butit

wasworthit intheendandwecouldn’tbehappiernowthatwe’vefinallybeenableto

shareit withyou.OurNewWaveYarnismadebyrecyclingplasticwaterbottlesand

combiningthemwithcotton.Theresultisa super-softandsquishyfibrethathasall

thegreatpropertiesofcottonnexttotheskin.”

What’sevenmoreamazingisthatevery100gballrescuesthreeentirebottles

fromendingupintheoceanorlandfill.Withthehelpofknittingenthusiasts,

WoolandtheGanghavesavedover7,000bottlesfromlandfill.Buttheproject

wouldn’t have been possible without their customers – Anna

says, ”We think makers are pretty magical, and we believe that

together we can make a little positive change for the planet. By

providing a range of fibres for our community to work with, we

hope we’re giving them the right tools to knit with, ones that

aren’t detrimental to our planet.”

With such success already from this project, the team hav

some fun plans for the future. “We are always working on new

and exciting things here at WATG HQ!” says Anna. “We have

some new yarns joining the gang, exciting collaborations with

makers we love, as well as new designs and colours for our fave
