STITCHISA PURLSTITCH?
A droppedpurlstitchisjust as easy to
pick up. Here’s how...

1 Insertyourright-handneedlefrom
backtofrontintothelooptostopit
unravellinganyfurtherdown. Now
you’vegotthestitch.
2 Pickuptheloosestrandofyarnby
slippingthepointoftherightneedle,
frombacktofront,undertheloose
strandofyarn.Thestrand should sit in
frontofthestitch.
3 Inserttheleft-handneedlethrough
thebackofthestitch,thenliftthe
stitchoverthestrandandothe
needle.Youwill now have remade the
purlstitch.
4 It’sonthewrongneedle,soputthe
pointoftheleft-handneedlethrough
thefrontofthestitchandslipit onto
theleft-handneedle. Continue to purl
across the row.

4 It’sonthewrongneedle,soputthe
pointoftheleft-handneedlethroughthe
frontofthestitchandslipit ontotheleft-
handneedle.Nowit’sfacing the right way
and you can carry on.

4 Nowtransferthestitchfrom
thecrochethooktoyour
left-handneedle,without
twistingit.Finishtherowand
you’redone!Don’tworryif the
knittinglooksa bitodd– the
tensionwillwork itself out as
you carry on.

3 Pulltheladderrungthrough
theloosestitch.Repeatuntil
you’vetakenthestitchallthe
waybackup.Thefurtherdown
yourstitchwas,thetighter
therungswillbe,but try to get
them through.

2 Withthehookpointingup,
insertit underthefirstladder
rung.Thesehorizontalrungs
correspondtotheplaces
wheretheverticalloops of your
knitting usually are.

1 Knituptothelaststitch
beforethe‘ladder’.Lookdown
theladdertofindtheloopof
thestitch.Insertthecrochet
hookfromfronttobackthrough
theloopofthedroppedstitch.
Usea hooksmaller than your
needles.


1 Insertyourright-handneedlefrom
fronttobackintothelooptostopit
unravellinganyfurther down. Now you’ve
got the stitch.

2 You’llalsoneedtopickuptheloose
strandofyarnaboveit.Slipthepoint
oftherightneedle,fromfronttoback,
undertheloosestrandofyarn.The
strand should sit behind the stitch.

3 Inserttheleft-handneedlethroughthe
frontofthestitch.Liftthestitchoverthe
strandandotheneedle. You will have
remade the stitch.

a purlstitch– it willhelpyourfabriclookneaterand smoother once
you’ve looped it back up to your working row.
