Note to Teacher


Your students have now learned about the parts of plants and the life
cycle of plants. You should pause here and spend one day reviewing,
reinforcing, or extending the material taught thus far.
You may have students do any combination of the activities listed
below, but it is highly recommended you use the Mid-Domain Student
Performance Task Assessment to assess students’ knowledge of plants’
parts. The other activities may be done in any order. You may also
choose to do an activity with the whole class or with a small group of
students who would benefit from the particular activity.

Core Content Objectives Up to This Pausing Point


Students will:
 Distinguish between living and nonliving things
 Explain that plants are living things
 Explain that different kinds of plants grow in different environments
 Describe what plants need to live and grow: food, water, air, and light
 Identify the root, stem, leaf, flower, and seed of a plant
 Explain that roots anchor the plant and take in water and nutrients
 Explain that stems support the plant and carry water and nutrients to
the various parts of the plant
 Explain that the plant makes its food in its leaves
 Explain that seeds are the beginnings of new plants
 Explain the basic life cycle of plants
