ask students to repeat your sentence.

     Now let’s put these two sentences together using and. We use and to

  What else is George doing? (holding a seedling in his hand)

  What word can we use to put these two sentences together?

  his hand.

3. Using the word and, tell your partner two things that interest you. For
   example, you could say, “I have an interest in animals, and I have an
   interest in math.”

Word Work: Experiment

1. In the read-aloud you heard that “[George Washington Carver] spent
   the rest of his life continuing to study plants and experiment with ways
   to make them grow better.”


2. Say the word experiment with me three times.


3. When you do an experiment, you are testing something to see what
   will happen or trying out different things to see what they are like.
