 Lesson Objectives


Core Content Objectives
Students will:
 Identify the root, stem, leaf, flower, and seed of a plant
 Explain that roots anchor the plant to the soil and take in water and
nutrients
 Explain that stems support the plant and carry water and nutrients to
the various parts of the plant
 Explain that the plant makes its own food in its leaves

Students will:

that make plants similar and different, and characteristics of a real
potted plant and a picture of a plant (RI.K.3)
 With prompting and support, describe the role of an author and
illustrator in a nonfiction/informational text (RI.K.6)
 With prompting and support, describe illustrations, such as an
illustration of a sunflower and a picture of an apple tree, to check and
support comprehension (RI.K.7)
 With prompting and support, identify the reasons or facts given in the
read-aloud to show that plants are living and that plants need roots
and stems for survival (RI.K.8)
