VEG FROM

YOUR GP

We all know the benefits of a good diet,
so could offering fruit and veg on
prescription help those in poor health
(for example, people with high blood
pressure or high cholesterol)? Scientists
at Tufts University and Brigham and
Women’s Hospital in Boston, US.
investigated data from recent National
Health and Nutrition Examination
Surveys, studies and meta-analysis, and
found that offsetting the cost of fruit and
veg by 30 per cent could improve the
recipients’ health and be cost effective for
the insurance companies, compared with
paying for preventive drug treatments.
