QUEST ADVENTURE RACE SERIES
Adventure racing is soaring in popularity, and we’re calling it the
must-try challenge of 2019! It’ll take you to stunning locations
to combine trail running, cycling and kayaking – a triathlon with
a difference that’s fun and accessible for all (you don’t need
your own kayak and even bikes can be hired). Quest has a
series of adventure races taking place this season, the first
is in Snowdonia National Park, Wales, on June 8. If that’s too
soon to get your training in (see box), how about heading to
Ireland for the Lough Derg event on September 14, or Quest’s
flagship race in Killarney on October 12? Each event has routes
of differing lengths (22-83km), with the shorter options being
suited to anyone who can run 10km. You’ll be rewarded for
your exertions with a fourth event – the evening-after party.
Entries from around £67, questadventureseries.com.

SNOWSTORMER OCR SERIES
We know what you’re thinking, it’s a bit early to be writing about
winter races. But no, this is a year-round, snow-based obstacle
run, kicking off at Milton Keynes Snozone on July 20. Founded
on the principles of Arctic training (running in sub-zero
temperatures makes you work at higher intensity and burn more
calories), it’s designed to appeal to runners and OC racers who
want a new challenge, as much as snowsports enthusiasts who
want their hit in summer. The 5km course is set over a 15-degree
incline, with 25 obstacles, and is said to feel more like a
10km+ expedition. Further events are at Castleford Snozone
in Yorkshire on August 10, and Manchester Chill Factore
on September 28. Entries from £76, snowstormer.co.uk.
