athletic scholarship: A discount or grant-in-aid, based on


athletic ability, subtracted from the announced tuition
and fees of a college.

blue-chip prospect: A student athlete who has demonstrated


during high-school competition that he/she has excep-
tional ability and will likely have an immediate impact on
a top-level Division I program.

booster: Any person who demonstrates an interest in a specific


sport or in the athletic program of any NCAA college. NCAA
prospects or student athletes will lose all NCAA eligibility if
found to respond to any direct contact of a booster, including
phone calls, mail, or in person.

campus visit: Official Visit—A visit that is paid for by the recruit-


ing institution, including: transportation, food, lodging, and
entertainment for the prospect. Unofficial Visit—A visit that
is paid for by the prospect. A prospect can have an unlimited
number of unofficial visits to a campus.

combine: A series of tests, measures, and drills used by college


coaches to determine the potential of many prospects at
one time.

contact: Any face-to-face meeting among a prospect, his/her


parents, and any representative (official or unofficial) of a
recruiting institution.
