NCAA: The National Collegiate Athletic Association is an organi-
zation consisting of member institutions that create rules and
regulations governing eligibility, recruiting, and all aspects of
competition for its over 800 members.

NCAA Initial eligibility Center: The Eligibility Center is a depart-
ment of the NCAA that gathers prospects’ test scores and
transcripts. It provides eligibility information to both colleges
and the prospect.
The NCAA provides a brochure, “Making Sure You Are
Eligible to Participate in College Sports,” that has a
Student Release form. It can be obtained from either your
high- school counselor or from the NCAA at their website,
http://www.ncaa.org, or by calling and requesting a form at (319)
337-1492.
Proposition 48: The proposition that created the NCAA regula-
tion that requires prospects to score at least minimum scores
on standardized tests and achieve at least a C in the core
courses as identified by the Eligibility Center.
prospect: A student athlete who has entered at least ninth grade
and has drawn the interest of college recruiters.
