This chapter shatters Myth #3. The academic requirements to
be eligible as a freshman continue to become tougher. To be
eligible at a Division I institution you must complete, with
a 2.0 average in the core (required) curriculum, at least 16
academic units, or full-year courses, which must include the
following units:
- 4 English;
- 2 social sciences;
- 3 math, including Algebra I or higher;
- 2 science (at least one lab course, if a lab course is offered
at your high school); - 4 or more units in any of the above or in foreign language,
computer science, philosophy, or nondoctrinal religion;
and - 1 more unit from among English, math, and natural or
physical science.
To be eligible for Division I competition, you must also
accomplish the following:
- Graduate from high school;
- Successfully complete the 16 core courses listed above; and
- Have a core course GPA combined with an SAT score or an
ACT sum score based on the 16 core GPA/Test score index.
