IunderstandthepointthatDavid
Richardmakesin his‘Levelplaying
field’letterinInbox(AP 13 April)and
minimisingtheimpactthatcomputer
softwarenowhasona finalimage.
Unfortunately,thisideaofmaking
post-processingsoftwareavailable
thatonlyreplicateswhatcouldbe
achievedpre-digitalis nonsense.If
wegodownthatroutethenshould
wenotalsobancamerasthatcan
takebetter-qualityimagesthanthose
ofthepre-digitalera?Super-fast
autofocusshouldbebanned;
nocamerashallhavemorethan
11 focuspoints;nocamerashallhave
morethana 6MPsensor.Afterall,
wedon’twanttechnologytobetaking
controlofourimages.
Whataboutlenses?I havea bag
of lensesthatwereproducedfrom
the1970stoasrecentlyas2018.
If wearetoonlyusetoolsfromthe
pre-digital era does this mean the

imagestakenonmyshinynew
mirrorlesscameraandsuper-sharp
modernlenscannotbeconsidered
forcompetitions?
Ifwecarryonlookingbackwards
andrefusetoembracewhatwehave
availabletoustodaythenwewillnever
progress.Technologyis heretostay,it
is notgoingtogoaway.If youdon’tlike
whatpost-processingsoftwarecando
thendon’tuseit – createyourimages
usingthetechnologythatyouhave
availabletoyou.Beproudof whatyou
achieveandtheimagesthatyouhave
created;theyareyourmasterpieces
andtheyaregreatphotographs.
Butpleasecanpeoplestopbleating
onaboutpost-processingsoftware
andperceivingthatit is relatedtothe
devilorsomethinglikethat.It is here.
It’savailable.Millionsof ususeit in
someway,shapeorform.Get over
it andmoveon,please.
