    • It was carved in a big rock mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota.



  3. Inferential Who did not like the idea to carve Mount Rushmore in the
    Black Hills?

    • Many Native Americans did not like the idea.
      Why didn’t Native Americans want Mount Rushmore carved there?

    • They believe the land is sacred, or holy.



  4. Literal Which four presidents were chosen to be on the Mount
    Rushmore?

    • George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and
      Abraham Lincoln were chosen to be on the Mount Rushmore.



  5. Evaluative Why do you think each of these four presidents was
    chosen to be carved on Mount Rushmore?

    • George Washington was the first U.S. president. Thomas Jefferson wrote
      the Declaration of Independence. Abraham Lincoln declared that slavery
      was illegal. Theodore Roosevelt conserved nature.
