carefully at the map, then use it to answer the following questions:

  2. Where did the Oregon Trail begin? (Missouri; St. Joseph,
    Missouri)

  3. In 1869, what method of travel connected Omaha, Nebraska,
    and San Francisco, California? (the transcontinental railroad)
    Alternative: Have students refer to their Westward Expansion
    Maps or the Class Westward Expansion Map to answer the
    following riddles:

  4. I am a waterway that was built to connect the Hudson River to
    the Great Lakes. What am I? (Erie Canal)

  5. I was built in 1869 from Omaha, Nebraska, to San Francisco,
