Went to bed with his stockings on;

One shoe off, and one shoe on,

Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John.

[Move head side to side for each syllable.]

Went to bed with his stockings on;

[Tell students, “John’s stockings are his socks.” Mime sleeping and point to

your socks.]

One shoe off, and one shoe on,

[Carefully take off a shoe.]

Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John.

[Hold the shoe in one hand and move head side to side for each syllable.]
