It’s show time!

T

here’snothinglikethe

funofpreparingfora

show– everyshowis

hardwork,butrewarding.

Withthisinmind,I have

createda seriesofthreequilts

andsomecushions,allof

whicharethemedaround

goingtoa show.I madethe

firstlittlequiltallabout

LauncestonAgriculturalShow.

WhenI belongedtotheYoungFarmersclubI would

alwaysbeuplatefinishingovarioushandcraftsor

sewing.Equally,whenI competedwithmyhorses

therewouldbemuchplaiting,washingandpolishing

lateintotheevening– allsoI couldputmybestfoot

forwardattheshow.I reallyenjoythepreparationfor

anythingandthere’salwayssucha goodcommunity

spirit.Youalsomeetfriendsyouhaven’tseenfora

while,andthereis alwaysanairofexcitementwhile

the cattle and horses wait for the grand parade.

Stitchingpreciousmemories

I wassopleasedwithmylittlequilt,I madeanother

biggerversion,whichis lessofa seriousquiltand

moreofa keepsakeofmemories.It’sfun,andI hope

it capturesthemainelementsoftheshowwiththe

animalsallwashedandpolished,thecattlehandlers’

whitecoatssparkling,ladieswearingtheirbestdress,

buntingfestoonedallaboutand winners showing o

theirredrosettesandcups.

AtoneoftheNECshows,someonecametomy

standandgavemea gorgeouslittlesilvercow.To

keepit safeI havesewnit ontothequiltlikea trophy.

safe.Forthelargerquilt,I’veusedsomehand-sewn

appliquéandbondedwebforquicknessandeect.

I’vealsousedwooltopad the big prize bull to make

himmoreprominent.

Once,aftera showat theNEC,LynetteAnderson

fromAustraliacamebacktoCowsliptoteachand

nowweruna classtogether.I feelhonouredand

sometimesa littlescared.Everyyear,LynetteandI

eachgivea kitaspartofthecoursefeeandlastyear,

I madea littlequiltallaboutgoingtoa quiltshow.
