theexhibitorshavesatupallnight
puttinginthefinalstitches,so
I addedthissentimenttothedesign.
I usedoneofJanetClare’sfabrics
intheborderinone-inchsquares
andHalf-squaretriangles,andI
includedlotsofpeopleanddogs
tosignifytherushtotheshow.
There’salsoa jugofflowersmade
fromlittlecirclesoffabricgathered
upanddividedintopetals,which
I hope adds character and texture.

A slowcraft– quiltsinprogress
Nowthattheweather’swarmer
andthesunis out,I’veenjoyed
sittingoutinthegardendoing
somequiltingwhilelisteningto
thebirds.Eachonesingsa dierenttune
andmybelovedswallowsmerrilybobabout.While
ponderinginthegarden,a newideajustcamealong


  • theflowerborderquiltfrommyfirstbookhas
    beenverywellreceivedbybeginnersand I decided
    to remake it with an appliqué centre.


I’veseentheMaryQuantexhibitioninLondon
onTVandrememberherlovelyshopinLondon’s
KingsRoadandhericonicflower– whatI call
JammieDodgerflower– whichI findveryusefulin
myappliquédesigns.I trytodesignflowersthatare
simpletoappliquéat firstwithouttoomanydicult
edges,soit’snotsurprisingthatMary’smotif
hasinspireda newcentreformyflowerappliqué,
whichwearebusymakinginModa’sBorofabric
collection.ThenameBorocomesfromthepatched
indigoblueclothesofJapaneseworkwear,held
togetherwithKanthastitches– anEasternstyleof
embroidery.ForthebackgroundfabricI’veused
a printedfloralfabricthewrongwayuptomakea
verysubtleground,thenputthestrongBoroblues
on top with spring-like yellows – I think it will work

well.I havea passionforblueandgoldandHalf-
squareorQuarter-squaretrianglesat themoment,
soI amsureI willbedreamingupmore of these
designsinthenotsodistantfuture.
A groupofquiltersfromTavistockaskedmeto
helpthemdesignandmakea 30thbirthdayquiltfor
theirgroup,GooseyQuilters.Wemadea bigblock
forthecentreofthequiltandsix-inchblockstogo
aroundtheoutside.Mostofthememberscamehere
forthedayandhelpedtosewtheirblocks,eachof
whichheldspecialmeaningstothemembers- a little
bitofbuntingwasthrownintheretoo.Thedaywas
greatfunanda lovelyquiltwasmadebythemembers
tocelebratetheirspecialbirthday.Thefriendship
andsupportacrossthecountrythroughquiltgroups
seems to just grow and grow, which is really lovely.

MyChristopherWilson-Tatequiltmadefromhis
forthcomingRegencySussexcollectionis coming
alongnicely,thoughit’sprovingtobea bitofa
challengeasI’mhavingtobeveryinventiveabout
howI usethepiecesI haveavailable!UsuallywhenI
designa quilt,I workwithmorethanonecollection,
butthistimeI’mtryingtostaywithinthesame
range.Modaverykindlysentmea packofFat
Quartersaheadoftimetomakethequiltbeforethe
collectionarrives,whichis fabulous,butit doesmean
thatI don’thaveanylargerlengthstoworkwith.For
example, I really like working with checks and plaids,
