Comprehension Questions
If students have difficulty responding to questions, reread pertinent lines
of the story and/or refer to specific images. If students give one-word
answers and/or fail to use read-aloud or domain vocabulary in their
responses, acknowledge correct responses by expanding the students’
responses using richer and more complex language. Encourage students
to answer in complete sentences. Model answers using complete
sentences.


  1. Literal What is the title of this story?

    • The title of this story is “The Three Little Pigs.”



  2. Literal What material did each little pig use to build his home?

    • The first little pig used straw to build his home. The second little pig
      used sticks to build his home. The third little pig used bricks to build his
      home.



  3. Inferential Which houses could the wolf blow down? Why was the wolf
    able to blow those houses down?

    • The wolf could blow down the houses made of straw and sticks because
      they were not strong.



  4. Inferential Which house could the wolf not blow down? Why?

    • The wolf could not blow down the brick house because the house was
      very strong.



  5. Evaluative How are the endings of “Chicken Little” and “The Three
    Little Pigs” different?

    • At the end of “Chicken Little,” the birds run away from the fox’s den.
      At the end of “The Three Little Pigs,” the wolf runs away from the pig’s
      home.



  6. Evaluative Remember that made-up stories are called fiction. What
    kind of story is “The Three Little Pigs”?

    • “The Three Little Pigs” is fiction.
