STEP NINE: Grab the Move tool,
and reposition all the shape layers
closer to the original text shape,
leaving the same amount of space
between each one. Once reposi-
tioned, turn off the grid by going
to View>Show>Grid.

STEP 10: Let’s add a photo behind
the text. I used another image from
Pexel.com. You can click here to find
it. Just go to File>Place Embedded,
navigate to your image, and click
Place. Resize the image to fill the
document, and press Enter. Drag
the image layer below all the text
shapes in the Layers panel.

S T EP 11: Click the top shape layer
in the Layers panel, and then Shift-
click the bottom shape layer to
select all the text layers, and change
the blend mode to Multiply so they
all lose their white fill.

STEP 12: And finally, make the
complete NEW YEAR text shape
the active layer, click on the Add a
Layer Style icon (ƒx) at the bottom
of the Layers panel, and choose
Color Overlay. Set the Blend Mode
to Normal and the Opacity to 100%.
Click on the color swatch to open
the Color Picker and click on an
orange in the image to sample it.
Click OK to close the Color Picker,
and click OK again to apply the
layer style.

And there you have a cool text
effect! Play around with the words,
different strokes (wot choo talkin
bout willis?), and blend modes to
see what you can come up with.
Now let's try another text effect.
