MAKING ART FROM YOUR FAVORITE ALBUMS
I’ve seen a few projects on the Internet where people
take track listings from albums and turn them into other
products, so in this tutorial we’re going to do just that.
We’re going to use an old shop receipt, a font, and some
creative imagination!
I crumpled up an old receipt, tacked it to a piece of
cardboard, and then shot it with my iPhone; it really only
needs to be that simple. (KelbyOne members can download

STEP ONE: Start by creating a new document (File>New)
that’s 6x12" at 300 ppi. RGB Color is fine; you can use
CMYK if you intend to get it printed but we’re only going
to use two colors anyway. Open the receipt blank.jpg
file from the download files in Photoshop. Select the
receipt by going to Select>Subject, and then click on
the Add a Mask icon (circle in a square) at the bottom
of the Layers panel to hide the background. STEP TWO: Back in your new file, go to File>Place Embedded,
navigate to the receipt PSD that you just saved, and click
Place. Use the bounding box to resize the receipt in the
center of the document, and press Enter.
Now we need a corkboard texture for the background.

File>Place Embedded again to place the corkboard.
While holding the Option (PC: Alt) key, drag a corner
of the bounding box to resize the corkboard from the
center until it fills the document, and press Enter. Then
drag this layer below the receipt layer in the Layers panel.
This will be our background and make the receipt effect
more realistic.
The receipt is a bit too shiny so we’ll just apply a
simple Curves adjustment (Layer>New Adjustment
Layer>Curves) to it. Adjust the curve in the Properties
panel (Window<Properties) just enough to take the
shine off the receipt as shown above right. Notice
we dragged the bottom-left point to the right. Save
