shortly after I’ve applied the Reject flag, but there are
always some that end up forgotten and sitting in the
catalog, and a new year is a good time to deal with them.
In the Folders panel, select the folder you want to
search (or you could also do a search on the entire
catalog), and choose the Attribute option in the Filter
Bar in the Grid view of the Library module. Click the
Reject flag (black flag with an X) to see all the rejects
in the targeted folder. If you feel the need, you can
review them one more time, or choose Edit>Select All
and then press Delete (PC: Backspace) to bring up a
dialog where you can Delete them from the hard disk.
(Note: If you choose Remove, they’ll no longer show in
the Lightroom Classic catalog, but will still be taking
up space in their original folders on your hard drive.)
REMOVE EMPTY FOLDERS
When I import my iPhone images, they initially end up
in folders that are named with a numeric expression for
the date the images were created. Ideally, shortly after
importing the photos, I go and rename those folders with
more meaningful descriptive names. As a part of that
process, I often delete a lot of phone images that I don’t
want or need anymore and, as a result, I end up with
folders that have no images in them. I try to deal with
those in the moment, but that’s another bit of catalog
housekeeping that’s easily forgotten.
So a good end-of-year or beginning-of-the year task
is to select those empty folders and remove them. To do
this, click the first folder you want to select in the Folders
panel, then Command-click (PC: Ctrl-click) any other
folders you want to add to the selection. If the folders
are together in one contiguous block, click the first and
then Shift-click the last to select all the folders between
the two clicks. Then Right-click on any of the selected
folders and, from the contextual menu, choose Remove.
The folders are removed from your Lightroom Classic
catalog and they’re also removed from the hard drive. n
