If you’re a Creative Cloud all-apps subscriber, or
you enjoy Photoshop as part of the Creative Cloud
Photography Plan, or even as a standalone, you’re
able to log in to Photoshop on the iPad and enjoy it
as part of your subscription. Files from Photoshop
on the iPad natively round-trip to the desktop and
you can open and edit any PSD that you push to the
cloud (simply choose Save to Cloud Documents from
the File>Save As dialog in Photoshop, and you’ll be
presented with the interface shown at the bottom of
the previous page). Now you can pick up where you
left off on the iPad!
THE POWER OF PHOTOSHOP ON THE IPAD
So, beyond accessing editable versions of your desktop
Photoshop files (which, in and of itself, is pretty cool),
let’s take a look at just how powerful this app can be.
INTEGRATION: As we discussed last time, Lightroom is
a full-featured photo-editing solution across platforms,
including mobile (where I use it most), so it makes sense
to start there. Whether it’s one of thousands of iPhone
images or RAW files from your DSLR or mirrorless camera,
Lightroom and Photoshop are deeply integrated and
you can enjoy access to all. Simply select the Share
drop-down from Lightroom and you can send your
Lightroom-edited files to Photoshop on the iPad (see
image above). These can then be sent back to Lightroom,
where the changed files will sit beside the original
(as on the desktop). Lightroom is where you ingest,
store, and apply tonal edits; Photoshop is where you
reinterpret pixels and perform magic.
