SELECTIONS: Photoshop on the
desktop offers many ways to
select an image, so does the
iPad version (Lasso, Rectangu-
lar and Elliptical Marquee, etc.).
None are as fast or as effective
(in either version) as the potent
combination of Object Select
or Select Subject (people) and
Refine Edge. Both offer the
same power and controls as the
desktop. This goes very nicely
with the Apple Pencil but, in
all honesty, I didn’t use that for
this challenging example and
I still got very detailed results.
LAYERS AND BLEND MODES:
Once you’ve made a selection,
you have options to mask, apply
adjustment layers and clip them,
use blend modes, and many
other things central to compos-
iting. You won’t bump into layer
limits, which is a testament
to the architecture. Test it by
saving a huge, existing, desktop
PSD with hundreds of files to
the cloud—no problem! Here
you see a detailed leaf that’s
been auto-selected, masked,
and amplified via the Multiply
blend mode.
