PHOTOSHOP DOWN & DIRTY TRICKS
KELBYONE.COM
on a white surface, and take a
couple shots with your phone.
Having them on a solid white
background makes it much
easier to select and extract
them. If you want to use the
low-res preview version of the
Adobe Stock leaves, you can
image to your Libraries panel.
Double-click it in the panel to
open it in Photoshop.
Select the Magic Wand
tool (nested below the Object
Selection tool [W] in the Tool-
bar) and, in the Options Bar,
make sure the Tolerance is
set around 25. Then click on
the white background of the
image. This will select just the
white area around the leaves,
so go under the Select menu
and choose Inverse to flip the
selection from the background
to the leaves.
STEP THREE: It can be hard
to tell if it’s a good selection,
especially on the white back-
ground, so click the Select and
Mask button in the Options
Bar, and set the View to On
Black (A). You can see here
that it did a pretty good job
except for a few small areas of
white around a couple of leaves.
Select the Refine Edge Brush
tool (R) in the mini-Toolbar on
the left and dab any white areas
or anywhere there might be
some subtle aliasing around
the edges.
