STEP NINE: Hold down the Shift
key, grab the layer group folder
with the leaves, and drag it
to the main image with your
subject. The Shift key makes
sure the leaves land centered
in the target document. The
low-res preview version of the
leaves will be smaller in the
main image than shown here,
but don’t worry, we’ll be trans-
forming the individual leaves.
STEP 10: Click the arrow next
to the layer folder icon to twirl
down and reveal the individual
smart object layers. In this case,
let’s start with the cluster of
three leaves at the bottom of
the stack in the Background
copy layer. Click on that smart
object to make it active, click
the Eye icons next to all
the other leaf layers to hide
them, and press Command-T
(PC: Ctrl-T) to activate Free
Transform. Scale the layer up
to where the leaves are just
breaking beyond the edge of
the canvas area. This creates
a sort of foreground framing
element around the subject.
Press Enter when done.
