S T E P 19 : Add blurs to other
elements that would fall out
of the depth of field. If using
Motion Blur, remember to
change the Angle to create
a sense of the leaves moving
in different directions, or you
can simply apply Gaussian Blur
under the Blur menu. Notice we
put subtle blurs on the leaves
behind the subject, as well.

STEP 20: Now click on the
extracted subject layer in
the layer group folder. Go to
the Create New Adjustment
Layer menu at the bottom of
the Layers panel and choose
Levels again. Isolate the adjust-
ment layer to the subject by
pressing Option-Command-G
(PC: Alt-Ctrl-G). This will clip
the adjustment effect to just
that layer.
In the Properties panel,
darken the image quite a
bit by pushing the shadow
slider in, dragging the mid-
tone slider slightly back to
the left, and adjusting the
white Output Levels slider
to around 214. This will make
the subject a little too dark
but that’s okay.
