STEP 21: In the Layers panel, you’ll see the Levels adjustment layer already has
a layer mask. Go to the Toolbar and select the Gradient tool (G). In the Options
Bar, click on the gradient thumbnail to open the Gradient Editor; select the
Black, White preset in the Basics panel; and click OK. Activate the Reflected
Gradient style icon in the Options Bar.
STEP 22: Make sure the layer mask of the Levels adjustment layer is highlighted
in the Layers panel, and then add a gradient to the image. We started on the
left side of the subject and dragged at about a 45° angle down to the other side
of the subject. If your gradient is backwards, then just check on Reverse in the
Options Bar, undo the gradient, and draw it again. You’ll see this effect creates
more dramatic lighting on the subject.
