THE REAL
ESTATE
ROOKIE
Jennine Abberton and
husband John are relieved
to have finally found a
place to call home after
their first attempt at
buying a house was
destroyed by rogue
mortgage broker
Aleksandra Frizzell.
Last year Frizzell,
37, pleaded guilty
to fraud charges
after scamming 14
people in NSW out
of $215,000 while
posing as a
financial adviser.
She was jailed for
four years.
Frizzell used the
money to feed her
online shopping
addiction.
“My husband
found her on a
Facebook ad, and
although we didn’t have a
big deposit, she said we’d
get a loan,” says Jennine,
51, who lives near Lake
Macquarie.
“She dressed and spoke
well and you’d never
have guessed what she
was doing.”
Frizzell told the couple
they’d got a loan
approval, so they put a
deposit on a block of land.
But there was no approval,
and when the sale of the
land fell through, they
lost $17,000.
“We were devastated.
My husband works hard
as a truckdriver and his
grandmother gave us
some money to help, too,
so it was even more
heartbreaking to lose it,”
says Jennine.
“But, in the end, we’ve
managed to buy our
home – and look where
she is now!”
Rachael (inset)
says she was
violated. “I put
my trust in
someone I
thought was
professional
and qualified.”
Frizzell (above)
scammed John
and Jennine and
countless others.
