that, the queen is furious that these two
grown-up women are acting like chil-
dren. As far as she’s concerned, it was the
Christmas from hell!”
THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT
Sensing the escalating tension, Elizabeth
had tried to broker a truce between the
Kate and Camilla before the holidays,
the source reveals. “She had quiet words
with the both of them and insisted that
they meet on Zoom to hash out their dif-
ferences, but as soon as they came face
to face, it backfired,” says the insider.
Camilla, 73, who kindly took Kate under
her wing and showed her the royal ropes
during the Duchess of Cambridge’s early
days in the Palace, “confronted Kate
right away, snidely reminding her that
Kate wouldn’t be where she is today if
it weren’t for her help, and that it was
Camilla’s right to be the next Queen
Consort.” (It should be noted that if and
when Charles, 74, ascends to the throne,
Camilla’s title will be Princess Consort.)
But Kate, 38, who has grown in confi-
dence over the years and is well aware of
her and William’s higher profile and pop-
ularity, “was having none of it, and firmly
stood her ground,” shares the source.
“Things got very heated and voices were
raised. Neither of them were willing
to back down, and in the end Kate had
enough and stormed off. The meet-up
was a total disaster.”
TRASH TALK
Privately, the relationship between the
former allies had turned toxic months
ago, according to the insider. “Camilla
accuses Kate of spreading rumors about
how she doesn’t make the cut, but there
are whispers that Camilla has been
spreading embarrassing lies about Wil-
liam and Kate’s marriage,” the source
dishes. “She’s been belittling Kate behind
her back and saying that because she’s a
commoner, she and William are not on
calls Camilla the
wicked stepmother.”

Happier Days
Queen Elizabeth usually celebrates Christmas with her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her rural
retreat in Sandringham, where the royals traditionally attend
morning service at St. Mary Magdalene Church. “Of course,
that all had to be canceled,” says an insider. “But even it hadn’t,
it would have been a miserable get-together.”
