title with his close pals, activist Malcom X (Ben-Adir), musician

Sam Cooke (Odom Jr.) and football player Jim Brown (Hodge).

While One Night in Miami... is inspired by a true event — the

the film fills in the details lost to history. Viewers get to see the

quartet opening up about what it means to be a public figure

against the backdrop of the civil rights movement — and the

pressures they feel. It also serves as a reminder that though

the night in question occurred more than five decades ago,

discussion of racial injustice is ongoing today. “It’s more than

just a story,” King says. “It’s a call to action.”
