The “lord” of the mud pits is Florrb, a mud mephit
oal)\)(l]ehgjYjqalhgaflk oa[]_Yaf]\Zq swimming in the mud pits). The mephit and the tortles share a common language (Aquan). Through words and gestures, Florrb urges visitors to bathe in the mud and ]fbgql]ek]dn]k&Al]eYf\kfghYqe]flZmlafkaklkgf
bgafaflgk]ogZYl`]&>dgjjZdac]kZ]afafalkfYlmjYd
element, but the longer the mephit remains in the mud,

have a light source or can see in the dark can discern
the room’s features:

far end of the room is a cracked, bowl-shaped altar, three
feet tall and six feet in diameter, caked with dried blood.
Set into the base of the bowl is an empty niche, and
KDQJLQJIURPWKHFHLOLQJDERYHWKHDOWDULVDEORRGVWDLQHG
iron hook at the end of a rusty chain.

A search of the wall frescoes reveals that the snakes’
]q]kg[c]lkgf[]`]d\hj][agmk_]eklgf]k&Pgjfdanaf_
in the mountain plucked out and ate all the gems, leav-
af_Z]`af\]ehlq$^Y[]l]\af\]flYlagfk&

above the altar. The victims’ blood would pool in the al-
