Star Diary

What Gets Scott Through the Day

reviewing the rundown
on the contestants and
mystery baskets for the day.
I have the first of many
espressos (black, no sugar).

takes about three
hours to film each
round—of course,
that’s if nothing
goes wrong. I stay
hydrated with lots
of sparkling water.

.. Wow, that was
a very difficult first round, with
missing ingredients that didn’t
make it to the plate. I had to be
a bit stern with one of the chefs,
but the pep talk got everyone
fired up to do better in the
next challenge. I have another
hot water and lemon.

.. The kitchen is reset
for the second round. Chopped
Sweets is equipped with different
tools than the original Chopped,
like liquid nitrogen and a machine
that tempers chocolate.

.. I’ve already tasted
six desserts, so my lunch while
filming is simple: an arugula
salad with roasted chicken and
balsamic vinaigrette. My diet
during filming is pretty restrained
to balance out all the sweets.
After a double espresso, I send
some e-mails and check in with
my team.

.. Ready for the final
round. This basket had a
particularly bizarre theme, which
makes for a rough day of eating!
Some of the crazy ingredients
we’ve had recently: emu egg,
wasabi ice cream, cow’s feet and
fried chicken candy.
I have more
hot water and
lemon—I drink
about a gallon of
this a day.

.. That’s a wrap. I head
back downtown, where my first
stop is the gym. I try to work out
daily for at least 90 minutes with
a mix of weights and cardio on
the treadmill. Then I spend time
in the steam room to detox.

.. For dinner I pick up

garlic and olive oil from
Fresh&co. Once I’m back in
the room, I FaceTime my
daughters in Scottsdale, AZ,
and we talk about how their
day went at school. It’s tough
traveling for work, and I miss
them so much.

.. A few last e-mails
and then it’s lights out. I need to
catch up on my beauty sleep!
