.. The early bird gets the
worm—and a double shot of
beet, ginger, orange and green
superfood powder smoothie.
.. My wife, Lizzie, wakes
up. I make her an Americano
with a splash of oat milk. Then I
make myself an Americano.
..
I take my
Norman,
for a walk,
then Lizzie
gets him
fed. We’re quarantining in our
house on Long Island, NY, which
is near our son Kyle’s doughnut
shop. He still has to work, so we
haven’t been able to see him, but
he leaves doughnuts at our door
every morning. Today there were
two cinnamon sugar doughnuts,
a chocolate-banana cake
doughnut and a Nutella s’mores
brioche. We raised him right!
.. I start prepping for
another #SymonDinners video
for Food Network Kitchen’s
Facebook Live. I’ve been doing
them every day because I’m not
able to film my usual live shows
for the Food Network Kitchen
app, and I really enjoy interacting
with viewers. It’s basically a
one-man production: I’m the
producer, prep, cleanup crew
and talent. Today I’m making
pastitsio (Greek lasagna), so I
prep my meat sauce, béchamel
and pasta for the finished
version I’ll show viewers.
.. I get the pastitsio
in the oven and eat a doughnut.
.
for the pastitsio I am going to
make live. I pull together onion,
garlic, ground lamb, crushed
tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon,
butter, flour, cheese and eggs.
..
Once
I’m done,
Lizzie starts
baking. She’s been doing it
every day, even though I am not
supposed to eat much sugar
or dairy! Yesterday she made
oatmeal cookies with Raisinets,
which I thought were delicious
but she wasn’t happy with
them.
..
I have two
mugs of
chicken bone
broth with
fresh ginger and lime. I make a
big batch every few days.

.. I start my Facebook
Live video. Olivia Annacone,
who handles my social media
and is staying with us, films
it—we’ve dubbed her “executive
iPhone producer.” I love that the
videos are something people
can watch and have some
normalcy for a hot second. It
does the same thing for me.
.. After the video, the
three of us eat the pastitsio, then
I pack up some leftovers for our
neighbors. Everyone has a stand
in their driveway where they
leave food. It’s like a block party,
but you can’t see anybody!
.. Lizzie and I
FaceTime with Kyle and his
family, which is guaranteed
entertainment for half an hour.
.. We binge-watch TV
until about midnight.
