Eyes on the Pie

The mesmerizing geometric pies on the Instagram account @lokokitchen

look like the work of a professional pastry chef, or maybe a trained artist,

but Lauren Ko is neither. The self-taught home baker started experimenting

Here’s how she dresses up a pumpkin pie: Using a toothpick, lightly mark

2-inch-wide columns on a finished pie, then mark diagonal lines to form a

herringbone pattern. Starting at the top of the left-hand column, fill in the

parallelograms, alternating pomegranate seeds and pine nuts as shown.
