My Sugar Pie, Zionsville
Amish and Shaker communities started making
sugar pies (also called sugar cream pies) in the 1800s
when bakers couldn’t get fresh fruit, and over time
the custardy dessert became an Indiana staple.
My Sugar Pie owner Kelly Maucere uses her
mother’s crust recipe; on busy days she puts her
family to work helping in the kitchen!

Omni Parker House Hotel, Boston
When this now iconic dessert was invented
here in 1856, it was called Parker House
Chocolate Cream Pie. The name evolved, but
the recipe has been the same for almost
two centuries: a sponge cake base with a
pastry cream filling and a chocolate glaze.
Some argue it’s more cake than pie.

PieTisserie, Oakland
Pumpkin pie isn’t exactly regional, but California
is one of the country’s largest growers of
the gourd, and roasted pumpkin pie is a
beloved holiday special at PieTisserie in Oakland.
The bakery puts a twist on the classic by
baking the filling in a chocolate crust.
